Looking to find DOROTHY ROBERTS death/burial pre 1619?
« on: Wednesday 17 October 12 08:59 BST (UK) »
Hi y'all,

Wondered if you could help please? I am looking on behalf of my friend for a death or burial of Dorothy Roberts nee Jervis.

Here are the details I have:

Peatling Magna:
Baptism 1567:
Dorothy Jervis d/o Wm.Jervis & Anne (Purefoy)

Marriage 1587:
Dorothy Jervis & Richard Roberts of Sutton Cheney  (later Sir Richard)

Their children (baptisms not found):
William Roberts - of Sutton Cheney.
Thomas Roberts - whose children were baptised at Peatling 1620's.
                              (Thomas & family were
                               later in Thorpe Langton)
Joyce Roberts - Married at Peatling 1609

London Dec.1619:
Sir Richard Roberts married Elizabeth Jervis widow of Dorothy's brother.
This is confirmed by memorial to her brother and Elizabeth in Peatling Church

So Dorothy Roberts must have died sometime between, say, 1590 - 1619.   Her father died 1614 and his Will mentioned his son-in-law Sir Richard Roberts, but not Dorothy so she may have died before 1614.

Any help/information would be gratefully appreciated,

Wendy ✿

Still looking to find Dorothy's resting place, she's an illusive lady considering she's from a well to do family  :-\

Hi
Not sure but maybe this maybe a clue: We have a Tomb/Monument with our church to Sir William Roberts who passed away in 1633.

The will of William Jervis in 1614 mentions that his son-in-law, Robert Roberts, is still of Sutton Cheney.

May not be the same person, but Mrs Dorothy Roberts was buried in Shenton, just over 2 miles away, on 22nd March 1617.

Hi David
Thank you for your reply: William Roberts had a younger brother called Robert Langdon (hope that’s the right spelling).. Shenton is 1 mile away from our village, Sutton Cheney. There is a Manor House that was owned by the Roberts family.
Maybe a coincidence.. but we have a special service at the church of St James here in Sutton Cheney at 2pm follow a conservation project to the Tomb of William Roberts in the church.

Hi,

Oh gosh I had completely forgotten about this post! Yes thank you the Dorothy we were looking for was the one buried in Shenton on 22nd March 1617. It was odd as it suddenly appeared on FindMyPast a while back and completed the jigsaw!!

Thank you for taking time to reply
Best Wishes

Wendy
