Petts in Derbyshire
« on: Thursday 18 October 12 16:24 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help?
My grandfather was John Herbert Petts born in Alderwasley in 1868, married Hariet Murgatroyd in 1897.
My great grandfather was John Petts born in Crich in 1847, married Elizabeth Beard in 1867.
My great great grandfather was John Petts born in Belper in 1813, married Sarah Lee born in Lea in 1816. They married in Crich in 1832/3.

I have got a lot of the info from the wirksworth.org site but have now reached a point where I cannot go beyond 1813.

Anyone out there with any answers?

Regards

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat

I can't help you with John's baptism, but this looks like his burial

John Petts buried 2.2.1889 at Crich.
Sarah Petts buried 12.12. 1885

John was aged 76 when he died and Sarah was aged 69

Hi AJPMJP

Some time ago there was a post about Petts in Crich/Alderwasley:-

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,420983.20.html

There was a George Petts, a gamekeeper to the Hurst family of Alderwasley who was killed  we know that
he had a William, Danial and a George  just wondering if he also had a John about 1813?

Take a look at all the posts and see what you think.

Hello spendlove

Thanks for the info. I have checked the post on the given link.

It is interesting but confusing as all Petts families seem to have the same list of first names to work from when it comes to children.
I see that Daniel & Mary Petts had a daughter Hannah born in 1824 and an
Ellen born in 1830 and a Mary born in 1827.  I have found other info that a Hannah Petts was a witness to the marriage of John Petts & Sarah Lee at Crich in 1832. Also John Petts and Hannah Petts were witnesses at the marriage of an Ellen Petts to a Benjamin Walker at Crich in 1833 and a Hannah Petts married a William Blount in 1835. Also a Mary Petts married a John Martin in 1824.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi

Thanks for the PM

I don't know which plot John is in.
I do have the MI's for Crich, but John & Sarah are not mentioned.

Sorry  :'(
