Newbee here. Im tracking down my grandmother. My story is :-  gran = Esma Hope Hodson (Hodgson?) Her mum Elsie Maude Jonston, her mum (via marrage cert NZ 1903 info) Kathleen Barnes (Catherine ?) married to John William Johnston. Has Elsie born in Vic apx 1879. Which has lead me to your Maud Elsie from Catherine Barnes from Adelaide. Any help here would be wonderful

This family is full of surprises with twists and turns - some expected and others unexpected.

What l would suggest is that get all the documents with the info to your family so that connections can be made with others based on that info.

My connection to the Barnes family is indirect.

My Henry Joseph Barnes was born Henry Joseph Jones but married and died with the family name of Barnes - long story - his mother was Jane - Patrick’s 1st wife your line is possibly from Patrick’s 2nd wife Adelaide via Catherine Muad.

Here is the VIC birth registration and you will see it has her as Maude Elsie:

7646 1879 JOHNSON Maud Elsie Father's name: Reginald Mother's name: Catherine (Barnes) Place of birth: CARLTON

Thanks yes this is my problem, I have that birth certificate I also have Elsie maud's marriage cert to Harry, on the marrage cert she has that her father's name as John William Johnston. So could it still be the same Elsie ?AVXKNX

I can’t see another suitable birth for Elsie and I can’t see a marriage for parents with those names.
