Barnes Home & Industrial School.Heaton Norris. Manchester.

1881 census shows a Thomas Bamford Scholar Aged 11 at the school/home. This is a possible match for my Great-Grandfather Thomas Bamford. Born abt 1870 in Lancashire. The admissions records would show his parents names,reason for being there etc.
Please would some kind person look this up for me?

Thankyou so much Elzabels. It's looking more and more likely as a match. I knew Thomas' father was a Thomas from his wedding certificate to Annie Hawley. The address you've given in your reply I'm assuming was the parents address. I'll move my search slightly eastward to Mancs Area rather than Bury.

I was hoping the admissions would state whether he was sent there as a 'destitute' or as a 'wrong-doer'.

Hello...New here, so trying to find my way as I try to learn more about my great grandfather, Samuel Marsh, who was at the Barnes school 1883 to 1887.  Know his dad was in Crumpsall Hospital at the time, but wonder about his circumstances.  Any help is appreciated.  Tnx..
