Paterson Brothers born Stoneykirk
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 22:20 BST (UK) »
I would  be very grateful if some one would do a look up on the 1891/1901 census

for the following William Paterson b.1862 and his brothers Peter b 1867 and Thomas b 1872 all in

Stoneykirk Wigtownshire .They were the sons of John Paterson and his second wife Mary Davidson who

were both dead before 1891.Just can't find the brothers.

Many thanks,

have you already discounted the 1891 entry for William Paterson 29 b Wigtown living in Lanarkshire and married to Alice aged 22?

1891 for Stoneykirk

Peter Patterson b 1867 Stoneykirk and living with mother Mary aged 60

1881 entry shows Mary as 61 but you say she died pre-1891??

There is no other 1881 entry for a Peter Paterson/Patterson with that birthyear

Hi Carole ,
Think the info. I was given was a "bum steer "

Cannot find deaths for Mary or Thomas on SP.
William registered his father John's death in 1885 and his address was given as 18 , Charlotte Street Preston.
The William with Alice is not him.
I did find a marriage for Peter in 1905 and his death.
Back to the drawing board.
Thanks for your help.

I spent this morning at NRH in Edinburgh and got some info. on my Patersons.
Found marriages  and deaths for Janet and William.
When Janet married James McCartney in 1888 Agnes was a witness.

No death for Mary and no marriage or deaths for Agnes ,Annie or Thomas.

Beginning to wonder if they crossed the sea to Northern Ireland which is not very far away.

Paterson Family - Bargrennan, Stoneykirk
This is my paternal grandmother's background which I wish to explore.
GGF John Paterson - married twice Margaret McClure, 1st wife, then Grace Cowan M 22/11/1863 Knowe Village.   Children  - Grace, George, John Stroyan, Henry, Annie, Mary and my GGF William Paterson B 9/3/1873
William married Janet Findlay 20/4/1900 - Knowe Village, Bargrennan, had a daughter - my
GM - Margaret Duncan Paterson B 5/2/1901 married William Cooper, Lochans, Stranraer

I can see many Patersons in the area but find it hard to figure out who are relatives? I have never met any of this side of my family thus my curiosity.
Should anybody have a better insight into the Patersons mentioned above, please let me know, it would be appreciated. Regards, Colin Cooper
