Can some one please explain what the RSO means for the house hold address.
The head of house was a Farm Labourer.

Railway sub-office.  It meant that the mail went direct via the local railway station where it was picked up/dropped by the mail train instead of via the nearest post town.

In this context "mail train" would usually mean a local passenger service that was scheduled to deliver and pick up mail.

I know this an old thread, but I've just encountered "Wrafton RSO" on an old family postcard, so did a search.
So in my case it meant a knowing correspondent could ask for a postcard to be dropped off at the nearest station to Heanton Punchardon instead of waiting for it go by horse and cart from Barnstaple.
What a wonderful postal service we used to have !
