« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 13:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks.

George Taylor (c1857.Boyle) Occ.Jeweller/watchmaker,  married Sarah Jane Shera(c1860.Boyle).  19 Aug 1880 @ The Parish Church, Boyle.

William Taylor, father, occ Jeweller,  John Shera, father, Occ. Farmer.

William Taylor  c1818, died 12 Nov 1877, aged 59, and was buried in Boyle parish church.   Was married at the time of death, and registered by his son George Taylor.

Children to George & Sarah Jane Taylor.

William Glover Taylor.  1883. Boyle.  (Ended up in Saskachewan, with wife Lulu(nee.Carscadden) and son Glover.)
John Shera Taylor. 1884.  Boyle.
George Burns Taylor. 1886. Boyle.  Died  - 1 Oct 1918.  WW1.   Cambrai memorial.  (Canadian Infantry).
Sarah Ann/Amy Taylor. 1888. Boyle.
Albert Edward Taylor. 1902. Boyle.  (not confirmed, need b/cert).

Living in Bridge Street, Boyle in 1901 & 1911.       The shop still exists today, but under the MaGee family, who I believe was apprenticed to the Taylor's.

George Burns Taylor, apparently married a Lilly White, and had a daughter Alice.(named on Georges attestation papers).  George was widowed at this time.))

Anyone out there with any links to this specific family, or further info on the marriage & daughter of George Burns Taylor.

Thanks.

Steve. :)

Facts
- George Burns TAYLOR was born in 1885
- He was in Boyle on the 1901 census aged 15
- He was in Canada in 1915 when he joined the 16th Canadian Infantry
- Between 1901 and 1915 he was in the Connaught Rangers and 16th Alta Dragoons,
  being in another Canadian Force places him in Canada for longer
- He was already a widower in 1915
- His next of kin named as his daughter Alice TAYLOR

Assumptions
- There should be an army record from the Connaught Rangers and 16th Alta Dragoons
- There should be a death record, most probably in Canada,
  for a Lily TAYLOR and derivatives i.e Lilian, Elizabeth etc.
- There should be a birth record for Alice, who can be no more than 10 years old approx. based on his age of 30;
  so her birth should be between 1905 and 1915
- The marriage could have taken place anywhere unfortunately

Old pictures of Boyle
In the one dated 1960 Taylors is the very dark fronted three storey building on the right, second building down as it were; Dick McGee owned it at that point

Sarah TAYLOR emigrated to the USA in 1912 on the Lusitania
Sarah was travelling to her cousin Mrs Davies/Davis in N.J. see www.ellisisland.org

Many thanks for all the info, and clarifying it.    I didn't want to fill up my initial post, as 'sometimes more is less'. ;D

The blog error is reasonable, as maybe confused slightly with brother John Shera Taylor.

With William Glover Taylor dying of the flu, he doesn't appear in the WW1 War dead, or have I missed something again. :o ;D

My friend remembers sitting in that little jewelers shop as kid in the early 1960's, and those postcards will surely bring back memories.

Thanks again for all your continued interest and knowledge.

I don't know where the information for the blog came from for their Remembrance Day Memorial and the man may have access to more
It information seems very specific about the two brothers and he may be a source of more information for you

I grew up close to Boyle, was back a few years ago and fascinated that much hadn't changed

The blog is close enough for Remembrance in my eyes. ;)

Your families might know each other, if you lived that close. ;D

I'll have to look for a death for William Glover Taylor........somewhere.!!

I sometimes find going back can help you go forward!

Sarah Jane SHERA seems to have been one of at least four children of
John SHERA and Sarah ? (possibly CRAWFORD)
She was baptised in Drumshambo & Boyle Methodist Church on 13 May 1860
She had three brothers
William Glover SHERA 1853 (some options in Alberta);
Caleb Hugh SHERA 1855 (some options in Ontario);
and Glover Crawford SHERA 1856-1887

These uncles in Canada would have given William and George good reason to travel there

There is also a pssibility that she had a sister Eleanor in the 1840s that married a John IRWIN
All would require confirmation as although SHERA is an unusual name there were a few families in the Boyle area
