Brothers Pierce b. 1842 & James b. 1861 in the parish of Piltown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland.

Pierce is known to have emigrated to Australia abt. 1866 but later went to live and work in New Zealand with his brothers John (b. 1844) & James.

Pierce married in New Zealand and his 8 children were born in that country.

A death notice recently found in the 'Sydney Morning Herald' (24.7.1946) concerning the death of Michael aged 70 years, eldest son of Pierce & Mary Lanigan (New Zealand), reveals that he was residing in Petersham and had been late chief engineer working for the Adelaide Steamship Co.

(James Lanigan who married in New Zealand and fathered 3 children, went to Australia to work about 1900, leaving his wife & family behind. Thereafter the trail has remained cold.)

The lives of Pierce, John & James in New Zealand have been well researched.

I am assuming there are probably descendants living in Australia. Would very much like to hear from you.

At Rookwood Catholic Cemetery , SEC*M2*15**504, buried together -

LANIGAN, Michael, buried 24/07/1946  70yrs
LANIGAN, Annie, buried 13/08/1969  85yrs

They can be located in electoral rolls of voters, but no other Lanigans, ie young adult sons and daughters, with them.

I suspect that they had no children.  A death certificate for Michael or Annie would list children of the marriage.

There is a marriage for a Michael LANIGAN to an Annie ATKINS 1919 in Sydney. Ref = 11521
