Is this the family in 1891, wee lassie?

George Cooper 35, lorryman b. Wick
Jessie Cooper 34 b. Halkirk
George Cooper 15 b Wick
James Cooper 13 b. Halkirk
Jane Cooper 11 b. Halkirk
Donald Cooper 3 b. Durness, Sutherlandshire
Annie Cooper 1 b. Edinburgh
William Munro 23 lodger b. Durness, Sutherlandshire

Address: 21 Jamaica St (Northside), Edinburgh

There is a birth on Scotlands People for a James Couper in Wick in 1877, have you checked this out?

That is the correct family. Will double check Couper but I think I have already looked at it. I can't find him in 1881 census either. 1891 census has him born Halkirk but I have Wick.

:-\ This might be connected to the birth entry I saw on SP. From 1881:

Jesse MacKay 42, wife b. Long Hope, Orkney
James Couper 4 son, b. Wick

Address: Hill Of Forss, Thurso

The surnames don't make sense. Not that common by 1881 for married women to show under a maiden name on the census.

Found them now on the 1881 census. I think there might be a problem with images/indexing somewhere along the line.

However, FreeCen www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl is always such a great resource for Caithness - now up to 80% coverage for 1881...and there they are!

Search for George Cooper, aged 25 in Thurso with his family.
