I'm not sure when this thread was posted but I've just come across it. My great, great grandfather was William Robinson of Horningsea, my great grandfather was Moses, he was the same age as James. I don't think James was the son of Mary Jane. William married a Mary Jane Sheldrick not Gotobed, there were 2 families in the district, cousins I think

Hi Frankyfarrell,
Interesting info but its looks to me that William ROBINSON Married 2 times then.

Did you get Mary Ann SHELDRICK as Mothers maiden name from MOSES Birth Cert?

1841 Census
Horningsea, Cambridgeshire
William ROBINSON, 25, Gardener
Mary Robinson, 25
Elizt Robinson, 4
Martha Robinson, 2
Emma Robinson, 1

1851 we have;
William ROBINSON, 37
Maryan Jane, 29
Martha Newling, 13
Emma R, 11
Sarah R, 9
Amy R, 8
MOSES R, 5
William R, 1
Reuben RICKETTS, 12, Stepson
James GOTOBER,5, Stepson

As Maryann Jane is born c 1822 she would be very young to Marry 1837. Therefore I think she is a second Wife for William and that explains all the Step Children etc in 1851 Census.

Death Reg;
Mary ROBINSON, Dec 1848, Chesterton, 14 29

Burial from Familysearch;
Mary ROBINSON, 03 December 1848, Horningsea, age 35, Birth c 1813

William then remarries 1849 to Mary Ann Jane GOTOBED Nee RICKET

Hi

Will have to get all the paper work out but the census is both confusing and misleading and has to be used with care, I will have to try and remember the details but as I remember he didn't marry twice and the 1822 birth date was also misleading. Reuben Rickett was not the son of a Mary, his mother's name was something completely different, however Mary Ann Sheldrick was born in Fen Ditton as was Reuben and James

What I am very fascinated and haven't been able to get to the bottom of and may be you can help me is why Elizabeth and Martha Robinson were both given the middle name Newling, I would love to know that, it really intrigues me :)

I  have just been reading all the Gotobed posts which more or less tie in with my research as
I am a great granddaughter of James Gotobed (born 1845 in Fen Ditton). His daugther Annie b.1875 was my grandmother .   She married a 2nd cousin, Charles George Gotobed (parents Charles Wm and Catherine Murray) and lived in Fulham.

I have an Avery Few (born around 1730) who married a John Gotobed in Willingham, Cambs in 1764. May be related to your family somewhere.
