Help please - Bournemouth Cemetery - Dorset or Hampshire ?
« on: Friday 23 November 12 05:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I live in Australia - so need some help with some local knowledge please.

I am doing some research (for the Wiltshire OPC project) into Capt. (rtd) George William Penruddocke who died in 1946 & his death is registered in Poole, Dorset. He was awarded the Military Cross in World War 1.

I have located information that states he was buried on 24th October 1946 at "Bournemouth Cemetery, Bournemouth, Hampshire, England" An inquest was apparently held into his death on 22nd October, 1946.

Is Bournemouth in Dorset or Hampshire ??

Is there anyway, online, that I could look up the details as to the grave location of George Penruddocke to see, if any, others are buried with him?

Or is there an email address for Bournemouth Cemetery - there are a few in Bournemouth -so trying to find out which cemetery he is in.

I am ultimately trying to get a photo of his headstone - if possible.

Thanks for your time
Cathy

Hi,

Dorset FHS has transcribed some of the Bournemouth cemeteries:

http://www.dorsetfhs.org.uk/

Not sure what they charge for a look-up but it might be cheaper than the council.

Thanks for your replies.

Yes I have checked Find a Grave - no luck & I had googled but no luck with email addresses with the cemeteries.

I have just located a death notice in The Times newspaper stating "Service, Bournemouth Crematorium"
so I guess that's where I am headed next - in search of an email address for them.
