Thanks Annie, it made a lot more sense the way you read the post, rather than the way I did!!

Tony,

Sometimes we (including myself) miss little bits when 'speed' reading!

"dna test suggests we are of the Clanranald line. Angus McDonald."

The 'full stop' after line was the key  ;)

Keppoch & Clanranald have a common ancestry?

Skoosh.

We buried my fathers (Donald McDonald's) ashes at the St Johns Canberra grave on Australia Day long weekend this year (2018). He is the newest McDonald to be interned there since Alexander Hedley and my Uncle Alexander John who died in 1978. My father had his DNA done and is of the Clanranald line, not the Cranachan/Keppoch line, which threw our research into turmoil. My sister is the one doing 90% of the research and has contacted genealogists in Scotland who are of the same opinion. She is currently on holidays in England and Scotland so more info soon.

All this is wrong... The Cranachan line is via the Keppoch/Bohuntine line. My father is the last to be buried in the St Johns Canberra burial plot. Archibald buried in Queanbeyan was his great great grandfather. My father Donald Hedley had his dna done and is recorded on the Clan Donald dna website. Heres a quote as to his origins. “ Persons in this group are known to be descendants of Ranald MacDonald, 1st of Glengarry and Clanranald”. The McDonalds history book is wrong, plain and simple. Dna has proved that.

Not sure if this is thread is still being read but I’ll update anyhow. As of 2021 we have been listed under McDonalds of Knoydart by the Clan Donald USA DNA Project.  Which is Clanranald. &&4QIZ5 is the Clan Donald code. I have made contact with a 5th cousin (thru dna) and his line goes back to Alexander 1778 - 1852, Archibalds brother. Their parents were Donald 1750 - 1824 and Margaret McLean.
