An ancestor is reputedly to have made a significant donation to this church - any history which might reveal details appreciated.

My husbands grandfather was Rector of Derwen -William Henry Lewis - from the mid 1930's until his death in1955. Could this be the same church? I have some interesting info on gifts (one of cassocks for the choir). If you can name your ancestor I can look through his correspondence

Hello Liverpool lass - many thanks for your E mail -  my American cousins are adamant that the family gave a substantial cash donation(probably small in terms of today) to Derwen Parish Church probably in the period from 1880 to 1920 - I have a copy photograph of  my great great grandmother outside the church taken about 1860 - the family there had the surname - Jones - that does not help but the monies may have come from an Edwards branch  - sorry to be so sketchy.
I believe my mother and two siblings were baptised at the church circa 1909 but the records are missing - I have been in touch with the current incumbent a couple of years ago about these baptisms with no success but you may have some suggestions.
Any assistance you can give me will be much appreciated. John Ashley from Caerphilly.

Sorry this was before my ancestors time but have you tried to access the parish records? Some of them are very full accounts. I am sure I have seen something about records on one of my trawls. I'll have another look and get back to you if I find the site! I'm also looking for Jones' in this area so our paths may cross again!!

The Reverend Robert Jones Roberts gave a stained glass window in memory of his parents in 1860.  See the Chester Chronicle dated 2 June 1860.
