Special Offer:

When I was developing the Pork Butchers database, 2 RootsChatters sent me the results of their researches, one as an excel spreadsheet, and the other as a table in a WORD document.

I then converted these to SQL (a database language) and entered them directly into the database.

If you have any lists of "Travelling People", whether ancestors or as research findings, I am happy to do the same for you.

Please let me know and I'll send you a PM how to send me the files.

Bob

Awesome!

I've been told I have Gypsy ancestors in Italy!  Would be amazing to track them down.

Bob sounds cool what your saying. My traveller people hail from Ireland (Tinkers).
Would you include areas as well as professions?
I find there is very little focus on the Irish travellers :(
A big thank you to people like you and the rest of the folk at Rootchat who help us struggling
family history people.

There are several address fields in the database, so if your travellers moved around a lot, you can use these to define the areas.

Bob,

I'm transcribing for FreeREG and keep finding baptism and burials for people who are travellers. Would it be helpful to you if I compiled them for your database? The info's fairly basic - it just says the date the name of the person (for burials) and their parents (for baptisms) and a note added by the rector or whoever saying "travelling people" or "travellers". As they moved about, it has occured to me that these events would be very hard to find unless you knew which county to look in.

Helen.

Hello Helen,

What a lovely idea - Yes please :)

A simple text file would be OK,
name, forename, county, place, date, event
and I could transfer them to the database.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Biz,

Is your database viewable for others, or are you offering the database for inclusion in the RootsChat database for Travelling People ?

regards,
Bob

Hi Bob
none of the information I have is viewable to other people,
I am able to offer look up through the information that I hold,to try and help out the roots-chatters.
I am normally to be found over the past 6 or so years in the chat section
I am sorry to say that I have never taken the time to see what else is on offer in rootschat!!!
