What pub Irlams O'th Height Salford?
« on: Friday 14 December 12 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for the name of a pub at Irlams O'th height Salford. It was close to St Johns Church where the NOW roundabout is. My Mum met my Dad there in 1944 & she thought it was called the Woolpack but according to a book I have it is called the Packhorse? It was demolished when the road was built through The Height linking up with East Lancs Road. I think it was on the junction near to  Bolton Road. My Mum is almost 88 so think she is mixed up with the name. I am writing a memoir of my Fathers life so want to get the name of the pub correct & maybe get some old photos.

Hi sossle.
I used to live in the Heights and can comfirm that it was called the Packhorse Inn, I seem to remember that the Woolpack was in the Cross Lane area of Salford. Hope this helps.
Regards Dave.

Hi sossle.
If you phone Salford City Library it is possible that they have photographs of the Packhorse Inn.
Dave.

Hi,

The pub I'm looking for was on the height on Bolton Road/Claremont Road? Isn't Eccles Old Road much further down closer to St Thomas's Church?
My Mother lived on Radcliffe Park Road at the time & my father on Duchy Road so it would be within walking distance & I think the junction of Bolton Road & Claremont Road was about inbetween?
I'm still a little confused about which pub it is though.
Regards

HI sossle.NATHANSGRANDAD.
The Pack Horse pub was on Bolton Road accross the road from Duchy Road, I lived on Claremont Road which was a two minute walk to the Pack Horse which I only went into once or twice. I believe the Pack Horse was closed down.
Dave.
