I'm pretty sure he travelled alone at the age of 19.
I guess he came over as a cornish miner.
His parents most likely stayed in Cornwall.

It's a pity South Australian marriage certificates aren't like those of most of the other states, as James' mother would probably have been named.

As it appears he may have been born in Cornwall, it makes it difficult. As Judith says, there are several James Goldsworthys of around the right age on the 1861 and the 1871 Census, and several births on Freebmd.  At this stage identifying which one is the problem.   :-\

Daughter Vesta Rowe GOLDSWORTHY marries a GOLDSWORTHY, and I wonder if they might be cousins...and James GOLDSWORTHY and William Henry GOLDSWORTHY are brothers?

James Goldsworthy uses name Douglas Darcy Leigh Evearisto for son
William Henry Goldsworthy uses name Douglas Leith for son
Leith and Leigh are close enough (allowing for transcription error, level of literacy etc, to be the same name).

Norman was my grandmothers uncle. It was a different branch of Goldsworthy's.

If the mother (Elizth) is Elizabeth Annear Andrews then that is the information I have. I am just not 100% certain. James would also have been 3 years old in 1861.

That chap may have died in Queensland in 1911, or perhaps the names are just a coincidence.

James GOLDSWORTHY
Parents: John GOLDSWORTHY & Elizabeth ANDREWS

Thanks so much for everyones help. I'm still confused with which John Goldsworthy would be the father of James. I thought it might be John goldsworthy, married to Elizabeth Annear Andrews, but as has been stated their son may have died in Queensland.  :(
Another person told me that that James Goldsworthy married Kate Kenny and Priscilla, not Nora Rowe

Your James Goldsworthy definitely married Nora ROWE if Percy was your great grandfather.

From the S A Indexes James GOLDSWORTHY & Lily Annie Laura Eveline ROWE had the following children…..

Moonta Mines
Ref = Dal 258/402

Ref = Dal 368/28

Vesta Rowe GOLDSWORTHY born 8th July 1889 at Moonta Mines
Ref = Dal 442/62

Rosalie Daphne Vinetta Rowe GOLDSWORTHY born 26th August 1892 at Moonta Mines

Jim GOLDSWORTHY born 10th June 1903 at Hamley

South Australian Advertiser  Thursday 17 June 1880
GOLDSWORTHY—ROWE.—On the 10th April, at the residence of the bride's parents, Moonta Mines, by the Rev. J. B. Stephenson, James Goldsworthy, late of Redruth, Cornwall, England, to Lilly Laura Annie Evaline, eldest daughter of Charles Rowe, Moonta Mines.

This death of James' wife in SA indicates he was still living in 1912 so doubtful he is the James who died at Gin Gin and is buried at Bundaberg Cemetery with a Catherine and others.

Unable to see a burial record on the Council's database for James.  Like many transcribed databases from old burial registeres,  there are possibly errors and omissions.

There is a headstone and photo available by simply emailing Kym.  Wonderful service :)  Her email address on the index page.

Obviously the Qld James G is not your person of interest.  The James buried at Bundaberg Cemetery was born c1857 Cornwall,  however he is buried with a Catherine GOLDSWORTHY born c1856 Ireland and two others.  I noticed a GOLDSWORTHY birth on the Qld indexes with father not named and mother Kate KENNY.
http://bundaberg.qld.gov.au/services/cemeteries/bundaberg/search?query=goldsworthy&recid=3271

I realise this information does not give you James' mother's name but helps narrow down the years to search on the census.  Perhaps he was born September quarter 1857.

Cheers
