Who was the informant on his death certificate.

Have you tried local newspapers for an obituary, maybe he left a will that would give a clue.

The informant was George William Dean his nephew who lived at 100 Ripley road Sawmills, Ambergate Derby. I have tried the telephone books but know one there of that name, I have also written off to the Belper library seeking obituary notices.

Hi
There are several private trees on ancestry with this man in.
Some libraries have free access to ancestry and you could send a message to the owners.

There are the remains of a stone cottage just to the west of the western portal of the Butterley Tunnel on the Cromford Canal.  Around 50 years ago when I was young, the cottage was always known as Walter Bradley's Cottage.

I have a photo somewhere of the cottage, probably from the 1930s, when the cottage was in good condition.  I'll find it and post in here.

Edit.  I believe that there was a stable attached to the cottage, possibly for the horses that were unhitched from the canal boats at this point and then walked over the tunnel top, onto the lane known as The Coach Road, to the Eastern portal at the Golden Valley.  The boats themselves were 'legged' along the narrow tunnel.

Hi

Looking at the actual marriage register for Duffield Derbyshire 1874 it states

James Bradley aged 33  bachelor   Labourer son of James Bradley deceased

Martha Storer aged 22 spinster illegitimate dau of Martha Storer

I note on Census he gives his birth as 1846 and this is the reason he only appears from 1881.
However if you use birth year of 1841 you find he was Bpt 21 November 1841 Heage the son of
James Bradley and Hannah.

Census prior to 1881 he gives his birth as Ripley
