Hi and welcome

He was still alive in 1901 and in Langholm - do you have him in 1911 to help narrow any search for his death

Scotlands People is the only website for death details and it is a pay per view site

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

A basic search on the index shows only one death in Dumfries between 1901-1911 matching a birthyear of 1841-1843 but there is no match if you use mothers maiden name Hope

Use district Langholm or Staplegarton from the list - no match to just Langholm

Hi and welcome  :)

There are two possible deaths for him in Langholm

1906 - aged 65
1918 - aged 79

No mother's name given on either  :(

There is only one of the approx age in Langholm in 1911 and he was born Annan, so I think that the 1906 death would be yours. You'd need to get the full death  cert from SP to be sure.

Quite clearly, the 1911 one is not yours - your James and Margaret are showing with two children in 1901 at 48 Factory Entry. The other James was already living at 29 Drove Road.

Just to note(death certificates) -
Prior to 1974 it is very rare to find the mother's maiden surname on the Scotlandspeople index search as it
was not included in the original index(some have been added since)
I believe they will eventually add the mother's maiden surname(if shown) to the rest of the index.
When searching from 1974 onwards the mother's maiden name must match exactly with what is on the index , no wildcards.
