Thomas Windsor
« on: Monday 31 December 12 21:05 GMT (UK) »
I am trying, so far without success, to find the marriage of Thomas Windsor.

Thomas was christened in March 1807 in Dawley Magna, the son of Samuel and Seevil Windsor.

He had a son, Samuel, born 1831/2 in Shrewsbury according to census returns.

By the 1841 census, Thomas was living with his mother Seevil and son Samuel in Coalbrookdale.

I have assumed that his wife died sometime between the birth of Samuel in 1831/2 and the 1841 census. The only female Windsor death that I can find in the period and area on FreeBMD is Lucy, but her death certificate shows her to be far too old and of another family.

So I am stumped and would welcome any help or suggestions.

Al

Hi,

1841 census does not show relationships;  are you sure Samuel is the son of Thomas?

Family search shows the christening of a Samuel Thomas Windsor, son of Anna Windsor, 21 August 1831 at St. Julian, Shrewsbury.

Hello Nanny Jan and thanks for your interest.
Samuel's marriage certificate shows his father to be a Thomas Windsor, a pattern maker, so it's a fair assumption.

I have seen the St Julian's christening of a Samuel but, as no father is listed, it's hard to be certain.

I need a marriage.

Fathers were often invented to hide an illegitimate birth.  Could Anna have been a sister of Thomas?

Christenings,
THOMAS Winsor 29 March 1807, Dawley Magna, Parents SAMUEL/SCIVEL
DIANA Winsor 17 Sept 1809 Madeley, Parents SAMUEL/SILVIA
FANNY Winsor 19 April 1812 Madeley, Parents SAML/SEVILLE

DIANA Windsor Married Samuel GOUGH, 15 April 1838, Madeley
FRANCES (Fanny) Windsor Married Richard GOUGH, 18 April 1841, Madeley

I cant find Thomas c1807 after the 1841 Census.

I did notice Thomas is not a Pattern Maker on the 1841 Census but is a Fitter.
There are other Windsors on the page including a John who is a Pattern Maker.

I agree that it is possible Samuel may be illeg. and the Son of Anna who may be Diana 1809.

Trish :)

Thanks Nanny Jan, a good point, I hadn't thought of that; and thank you Trish for the additional family information. It looks as though I shall have to settle for Diana being the mother of Sam...but I still have a nagging doubt.
