Thank you Sandra Heywood and Elwyn ! In the 1901 census my grandfather is Patt aged 10 who went to the USA before returning to Ballyart Mayo Ireland a few years later. We have a record of him arriving at Ellis Island in April 1912 en route to Chicago. Michael is the only one not on the census but there was a Michael. There was also Kate b.1888 John b.1893 and Tom b.1899. They also went to Chicago while Anthony settled in Ireland.

I would be grateful if anyone had any information on the rest of the family

Thank You  :)

We have no exact dates for the others but I will have a further look at Ellis island to see what else I can find out and post again in the future.

Thank you for all your help and information  :)

Hi there continuing the thread, I would be grateful if anyone had any info on my grandfathers brother Michael Gibbons. He was born about 1883, emigrated to Chicago in 1908, and lived with his sister Mary Fahey in Ward 13, Cook, Illinois in 1910. He never married and we believed he died around the 1950s in Chicago. His parents were Anthony Gibbons and Mary Gibbons ( nee Walsh ) from Ballyart, Castlebar, Mayo, Ireland.

Thank You

Brendan

Could Michael have been studying in 1901? Here’s someone born in Mayo of the right age who was boarding as a student at St Jarleth’s College, Tuam.

Reply 12 gave a possibility for Michael Gibbons based on his age on the 1910 census in reply 4.  However, it does look as if Michael was born 26 May 1880 Ballyart as per family search.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGG2-9GZ

Having an exact birth date throws up the following WW1 Draft:-

Michael Gibbons - 26 th May 1880 - 16 So Sacramento Bldg - Occupation: Street Car Conductor for Chicago City. Naturalized. Some of this is hard to read. It gives sister as Mary Fag 415 ?????? Street. Chicago.
Medium height, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair.
September 12 th 1918
