Samuel Sykes (c.1791-1865), help please!
« on: Sunday 06 January 13 14:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
An ancestor of mine, Samuel Sykes, is listed on the 1841 Census for the Isle of Man. It states him as being at this address: Duke St, Conchan, Douglas, Isle of Man. He was living with John Teare and John's family. John was a Buther. Sam, is stated as being a journeyman in butchery. I was wondering if it would be possible to find any records relating to when exactly Samuel came to the Isle of Man, it may of been before 1841? Samuel is back in England by 1851 as he appears on the 1851 Census as a butcher with his family.

If anybody could help me establish when exactly he went to the Isle of Man and when he came back to England, it would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

SykessS!!!

There are no passenger lists for journeys between England and the Isle of Man so it's difficult to track the movements of people back and forth.

John Teare is listed with other butchers in Manx directories but no mention of Samuel. Usually only the head of household is listed. John Teare is listed at Duke Street in 1837 and 1843 and at 30 King Street in 1846.
