What is Dandy Fishing
« on: Sunday 06 January 13 22:12 GMT (UK) »
I have found an ancestor on a Dandy Fishing boat in 1881. It was a smallish boat with six hands operating out of Ramsgate in Kent.

I have found various references to Dandy Fishing Vessels but no explanation as to what these were.
Please can anyone explain?

there is a brief discription here >

http://www.fishingboatheritage.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=129&Itemid=81

they were a two masted vessel used in the herring trade (mainly) and one usually had a few punts doing the net dragging then they transferred the herring to the dandy...

best discription I can offer you :)

Thanks for this information and links.
The info I found on google was also strange.

Now I just have to work out how my ancester whose family worked in Bristol docks ended up on a small fishing boat in Ramsgate.
