Family records office
« on: Friday 03 June 05 08:55 BST (UK) »
Hi
How much info can i get at the family records office in London.
Its just i'm looking for a George Jones born July 1897, but we don't know where.
The 1837 website indexs' LOTS of George Jones in that quarter,
I do know his fathers name, will the office list the fathers name or do they just have the index?

Thanks
Samantha

Short answer, they just have the index.

Why not give us that father's name (and occupation , assuming you have a marriage certificate) and we could try and thin out the field with the 1901 census.

What do you know about him?

How do you know it was July 1897?  Was it in a part of London?  If you know his fathers name we can help you find him........what was it?

Okay he is George Jones and would be aged 3 in March 1901, he died in January 1951 aged 53. His step daughter now aged 75 is convinced he was born in July, but can't remember any thing else about him. His daughter (My Mother) was only 8 when he died so also can't remember much.
His fathers name is Albert H Jones

Not much i know, but any help appreciated

Thanks
Samantha

Hi Samantha
I've looked on freeBMD for a marriage of Albert H Jones to try to pin down the district where George was likely to be born but there are loads of Albert xxx Jones that would fit the time frame of a birth in 1897.

Do you know what the H stands for in Alberts name? Do you know the Christian or maiden names of Georges mother?

Alfred H Jones - head  (born in Llanymynech Wales abt 1868)
Wife elizabeth from Ettinghall staffs abt 1872
Albert son 1890
Elizabeth daughter 1895
George son born Stone staffs about 1898?????
John son 1892
Leonard son 1896
Matthew son 1900

Hi
I've crossed referenced it and found him in July, Aug, Sept 1898 so if you could keep looking i would be very grateful!!

There was a mention of a miriam, but this could be an aunt rather than a sister

Thanks
Samantha

If you send me a personal message with your email address I can email you a copy of the 1901 census with this family listed.

The census shows Albert H Jones profession as  a BoatMan (barge) does this match with the profession shown on the marriage certificate that you have?

It often shows the fathers profession?

There was also a child called William in the family.
