Help required finding a birth please!
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 16:10 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for the birth of Osborn Knox Cross.
On all census' but one he says he was born in Bath, but on the 1911 he says birth place unknown.  His age on all census' matches being born in 1851.
But, I can't find his birth.
His parents were Charlotte Knox & Richard Osborn Cross.  Although, they didn't marry until 1855 in Antwerp as both were widowed.
I think there's a chance that Osborn wasn't Richard's son, or he was born under a different name (have searched under Knox and Cross)
So, what am I missing folks?
Thanks
Lisa

Osborn(e)'s birthplace is given as "Uxbridge" when he's at boarding school in Edmonton in 1861: RG9/796/90/31.

Sorry for duplication :)

Hi,

As the marriage took place in Antwerp have you looked for a birth there or in neighbouring countries?

There are two marriages for a Osborn Knox Cross-
1. Walthamstow 19/8/1872 to Elizabeth Hills his father is Richard Cross
2. Bethnal Green April qtr 1875

A Richard Knox Cross died aged 61 in Rugby Mar qtr 1879 (1818)
A Charlotte Knox Cross died in Warwick June qtr 1891 aged 68 (1823)

Central Criminal Court London 14/9/1857
Charlotte Knox Cross found not guilty looks like Forgery and fraud.

I think it possible that Richard was Osbourn's son as Richards middle name was Osbourn.

The trial at the Old Bailey in 1857 was for false pretences with intent to defraud.
Charlotte Knox Cross 28 tried to carry on drawing money on her dead husband's pension. She had been awarded the pension on the death of her husband Capt. Robert Trotter Knox East India Co., the pension ceased when she married Richard Osbourn Cross.

The charges were dropped when Richard said he saw his wife who he had not seen since November 1843 in Brighton two weeks before, he had thought that she was dead .

The name Trotter is the family name of a large house in Ballindean in Perthshire where Charlotte said she was born.

Thanks all. Sorry to disappoint, but I already had that info.  I was hoping that you would spot something I hadn't!  I also have the immigration details of Charlotte & Richard in Belgium in 1855.
We know quite a bit about Charlotte & Richard, its Osborn's birth we can't find.  This is why we are trying to work out if Osborn is really Richards son and where he was born.  If he was born in Bath, was he baptised?
