two Stephen brothers emigrated from Scotland?
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 21:07 GMT (UK) »
I have two brothers born in Kincardine, believe they emigrated after the 1841 Scottish census:
DAVID STEPHEN baptised 1826, JOHN STEPHEN baptised 1829.
Have researched and have info on their six siblings:
two went to Iowa, two to New Zealand, one to London, one stayed in Scotland.
But what happened to David and John? Their father was FRANCIS STEPHEN.
Note - in the USA an 's' was sometimes added so may be under name of Stephens.
If you have any information or believe you may be connected I would love to hear from you.
Kincardine - STEPHEN, FOTHERINGHAM, GOWANS, GRIEVE
Fife - BARCLAY, SELLAR, REID, KILGOUR KINSMAN

I note that the last two children born, Jane and Emilia were born in KINNEFF AND CATTERLINE,KINCARDINE,SCOTLAND. A search of IGI shows there are possibilities of your missing brothers at KINNEFF AND CATTERLINE, through the further census's.

Thanks for your interest Flattybasher9 re my search for brothers David and John STEPHEN.
I have already researched those names in Scottish censuses  - all the way through to
marriage and death cetificates. Alas none are ours. I believe they must have emigrated.
So I am hoping that STEPHEN researchers in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc
may read my post, recognise something in my message and respond.
Best wishes...

Your John Stephens is my GGG Grandfather.  I am a loss as to what happened to him too.  I do have him as married to a Jane Forthringham.  Email me if you have any more info.

I live in Iowa.
