Places in Llanedi?
« on: Wednesday 09 January 13 21:44 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors, William Thomas (b. about 1830) lived in Llanedi , which I understand is a fairly widespread area.  On various censuses he is in different places in Llanedi and I am unable to find where exactly they are.  Can anyone help me locate them please?

Caemain  - 1841 Census
Wannsarganh(?) in Gwilly  - 1861 Census
Ros Penhwch 1871 Census -  1871 Census

Many thanks for any help at all

Hello  :)

I'm not sure of the exact locations but looking at the nearby properties on the census images I would say that they are in Llanedi village rather than in the other areas of Llanedy Parish. If you look at other properties, you see names such as Ebenezer Chapel, New Inn, Royal Oak, etc which were in the village. New Inn has closed but Royal Oak is still there (Tafarn Y Deri).

There is a good reference guide to Llanedi placenames:

Kind regards
Morgan

Hi Morgan

Thank you very much for your reply.  Have had another look at the censuses and see what you mean about the other properties.  Thanks so much for your advice and local knowledge – it has helped to make sense of what was a puzzling problem.  Thanks also for link to list of Llanedi placenames - very useful.

All the best
