I think this marriage in Firies RC parish might be it :

Marriage of John McCarthy & Julia Prendible - 6 March 1859

An RC marriage, and too early for father's name....

you could check the area to see if there are any possible baptisms for him, ideally in the same townland as mentioned on the marriage record (i.e. Coolbane), or at least in the same parish. Unfortunately if he was born outside the immediate area it becomes very difficult to prove, or even disprove, a connection, unless there are some further clues - e.g. father's name, names for siblings, location this particular McCarthy family lived etc

There are no McCarthy witnesses at the marriage, which might have helped as they could have been siblings or relatives. Are there any McCarthys listed as godparents to the couple's children ?

Hi Shane, I have searched the irish church records sites and only three of his childrens baptisms were recorded, sponsers there were no Mccarthys, they had 5 children Ellie Julia not on the site and Denis Mary And John who are, I think It is a losing battle to try and find out his dob and Parents, I know he died before 1901 as he was not on the census however have no idea now how to find the details I need to go back further, Regards Lorraine
