My tree also has Charles and Louisa Grant (Palmer) from hampshire to St Helena and has all the people you have mentioned. I would really appreciate  being able to make contact and confirm details.

Hi Jen. Thanks for the quick response. I live in Zimbabwe.
As your G G Grandmother is Caroline Augusta Downer nee Grant and my G Grandfather is her brother Benjamin Grant we must be cousins. Nice to meet you !!
I would really appreciate more information on the Downer tree. I have only 3 children for them so far including your Frances Edward Downer.
I have info on most of the 13 Charles and Louisa Grant children and a couple of generations up from Charles.
I have a family tree on Geni I could share with you
bestest
Bruce

Hi, Jenbrie,

I too am a descendant of William and Caroline Augusta Downer, my great grandparents, their daughter Alice Ann my grandmother.  By the way all the references I have seen to the first name of William’s wife's show it as Caroline.

Philipstown is in County Louth, which is north of Dublin, close to the present boundary with Northern Ireland.

The birth certificate of the 9 year old grandchild gives her first names as Carrie Louisa.  Her mother the above Alice Ann, no father is named, DoB is 26 Feb 1882 at 8 Back Coach Row, Bradford, Yorkshire.  Her mother was present at the birth and also registered the birth.  Alice would have been 21 at the time and single, occupation a laundress.

In the census of the previous year Alice was a laundrymaid at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport, Lancashire fifteen months after the birth of Carrie she married Samuel Garrett at St James Church, Birkdale, a suburb of Southport, on 29 May 1883.

Caroline Augusta gave 8 Back Coach Row Bradford as her residence of the birth certificate. I have no confirmation that was her home or only visiting for the birth.  I have see no other record of where she and William were living at the time.  In1881 8 Back House Row was occupied byJames Mooney and his wife Hannah, he was a soldier born in Dublin and his wife in Cork - both an army & Irish Connection.

I was born and educated in Southport but now living in Kelowna, BC

I am sure we each have a lot more information to share.
