Does anyone have any idea what and where Fraser's Building was in Forres. I have some died there in 1957 and using Google found no info

LIBINDX http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp lists Fraser's Hotel, High Street Forres, which is now the Queen's Hotel. There is a sporting chance that this is the same place. To be certain you'd need to look through the relevant valuation rolls and/or registers of electors. There are copies of these in the Moray Local Heritage Centre in Elgin, and in the National Library of Scotland and National Archives Records of Scotland in Edinburgh.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I had the feeling it was maybe a tenement building, but I suppose a hotel is just as likely, or it may have been converted to a hotel. Thanks for that, further investigation needed

Hi jimr

From a quick google search, it looks as though it might have been in the Pilmuir area of Forres. If you search for Fraser's buildings + Forres (or Pilmuir), several of the search results relate to addresses in Pilmuir.

Wish I could help more.

Dollymixture

Thanks for those, looking at the condition of them I doubt if they are still in existence

Hi Jimr

My father was born at Fraser Buildings in Forres - I think it was demolished about 40-45 years ago.
Pilmuir Primary School and council housing are now there.
I don't know why but the people who stayed there were called "Coalny Hatchers" !

My great grandfather and his family lived there. I tried to find the buildings this year (2016) and found the primary school which is now there -disappointed >:(
