King/Hastings marriage in River
« on: Monday 14 January 13 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone have access to the Parish Registers for River? I am looking for the entry for the marriage of Francis King and Mary Hastings 8th December 1792

I have found the entry on the familysearch site but I cannot find a birth for Mary so I was wondering if, perhaps, she was a widow when she married Francis King.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Emeltom

No details about the couple are given, only the witnesses - Ann KEEN, & John ALDRIDGE (he appears as witness for many other couples so can probably be discounted as family/friend to the couple)

Hi Betty,

Many thanks for looking for me. It was a bit of a stab in the dark.

Francis was born in Waddesdon, Bucks. He was a paper maker by trade which is probably why he was in  River at the time of his marriage. I had hoped that Mary was a local lass but that seems unlikely now. Francis and Mary ended up in Durham but unfortunately they both died in the 1830's so no help from the Censuses. I have found a baptism for an Edward Charles born to a Francis and Mary in Buckland near Dover in 1793 and they also have a son Thomas Francis born in Two Waters in 1802 and baptised in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire in 1807. Again a good area for paper making. There is also another son James who is also found in Durham in 1850 when he died. He was born circa 1801 but again he also died before the Census of 1851 so I haven't a clue where he was born!

Anyway, thanks again for your time.
