William Beard

William Beard - Brighton Sussex - married 27 Sept 1711- looking for info about wife and children

I do apologise -the date is wrong. I am searching for the parents and siblings of Frances Beard who married Thomas Nevell on 27 Nov 1711. I believe her father's name was William and maybe her mother's name was Francis.

Where did you get the marriage date from?  There is no marriage on the Sussex Marriage Index for that date.  The nearest is July 10th 1711 to Mary Lancaster at Hastings St Clements.

See IGI batch number C01125-2
Frances dtr of Wm and Frances baptised 20th March 1683.  (may have died)
A  further child Frances, baptised to William & Frances of Brighton 4 May 1690.

Siblings appear under same batch number    Susanna 1681, Frances 1683, Nicholas 1685, William 1688, Frances 1690, Elizabeth 1692, Ann 1694, Sarah 1695, William 1697, Hannah 1701.
A note on the IGI for the last William reads:  Tne 2nd by this name, 3rd son & 9th child.
that suggests they had at least 3 sons and 6 daughters (not all of whom may have survived)

The SFHG list William senior as having died in 1698, adding that William (1698?), son of Wm & Frances, also died in 1700 and was buried at Rottingdean.

Frances  who married Thomas Nevill also in 1711, seems to have had both her brothers called William die in infancy, so should not have been a sibling of the other William Beard who also married in 1711.

Perhaps as a starting point it may therefore help to find a marriage date for William & Frances, the parents of this large Beard family in Brighton around 1680 or even earlier.

Thank you Silligen and Roy G so much for that information. I will follow up your suggestions. I have also had no luck in finding out about Francis Suter. Have you any suggestions?

Hi,
The couples in this conversation our my direct line ancestors .

After years of searching I have recently discovered that Frances Suter who married William Beard in 1681 was the daughter of William and Frances Suter ( she was buried in the Beard family burial ground in Rottingdean in 1705 )

Her sister was Elizabeth Suter (a witness at  Frances  wedding ) who married Jacob Stampe in 1684 in London .Elizabeth wedding record sates her father has  William Suter , of Chichester, upholster and deceased by 1684  .Her sister the then  Francis Beard is a named Witness to the service .

There appears to be a strong link between the Sussex and London Suter families .

Jacob Stampe  was a Hatband maker in London and is associated William Beards brother Nathaniel  Beard  1669 -1740 who was also a London Master Hatband Maker .

I think that they were involved in  making  the distinctive Quaker hats .All were Quakers .

Hope this helps

Let me know if you need anything more .

I am continuing to look at the Suter family so may confirm more soon ?

My line is via Thomas Nevell and Frances nee Beard.

They moved to Tranmere /Parkside  on the Wirral in Cheshire  and had a successful business including a ship and a brewing business .

They traded to London and that is where Thomas suddenly died in 1743 .

Do you need information about William Beards parents ?

Regard Yvonne
