FYI, the names of Sarah and William Jackson's children were James, Sarah Ann (both born in the UK), John William, Charles, Thomas, Frederick and Herbert Wesley (all born in New Zealand). Knowing childrens names can sometimes be useful to helping find other family.

I know the names of William Jackson's parents and siblings: John and Rachel (also both names are used for his siblings), Sarah, Thomas Matheson and Robert Henry. So I am guessing that John, William and Thomas are Jackson names. I wonder if Ann comes from the Howarth side (ie. the daughter was Sarah Ann Jackson).

Did you think this was Sarah in 1871:
1871
4451/ 82/35
Robert and Rachel Winterbottom with Boarder Sarah Jackson (and 1 yr old James)

Probably a red herring :) but:
1861
 3022/ 89/5
Robert, Rachel and Sarah Winterbottom

Marriages Jun 1852
 Dean    William Oldham    8d   871
Howarth    Rachel

Marriages Mar 1860
Dean    Rachel     Oldham    8d   809
Winterbottom    Robert
On Lancs bmd it says DEAN or LEONARD for Rachel so I don't know if it's the same person.

It all looks right to me  :)

4th March, 1860
Holy Trinity, Coldhurst
Robert Winterbottom, 34, Bachelor, Spinner, Royton Road, Father Robert Winterbottom Drawer in
Rachel Dean, 47, Widow, Weaver, Royton Road, Father James Leonard Weaver
Both made their mark
Witnesses were John Stott  (made his mark) and Isaac Berry

Hello,

you have them married in 1861 and leaving for NZ in 1877 but only 2 of the children born in UK.
Do you know where the children James and Sarah Ann were born in UK. They are not showing for Oldham (I don't think  :-\)

It`s getting complicated I know  ::)
George Dean married a Rachel Howarth in 1855 at Christ Church Glodwick.  Lancashirebmd shows her alternative name as Leonard.

The emigration record - 1877 shows William 34 yrs; Sarah 32 yrs; James 8 yrs and Sarah A 6 yrs.

There are no Jackson/Howarth births showing in Oldham to match these.

Looking at the online family tree for this family James and Sarah were born Bradford Yorkshire which is where Sarah Jackson was "lodging" with a Robert and Rachel Winterbottom in 1871 and shown as Sarah Winterbottom in 1861 as per MaureenNY`s posts.

Just catching up with that now   :)

I notice Mr Winterbottom is shown as born Saddleworth but Rachel is born Bolton and Sarah born 'Wittle' - 'Whittle le Woods??'
