Hodgson, Sunderland

Robert Hodgson was born in Sunderland in 1884.  At the moment that's all I know except for the fact that his father (possibly also Robert) was a butcher.  If anyone has easy access to directories of the period I would be grateful to know if there were any Hodgsons who were butchers.  I also can't find Robert on the 1891, and in 1901 he appears to be staying with an uncle.  Any information most welcome.
