McDonald John/Mary Ford Carlow 1853
« on: Wednesday 30 January 13 23:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
this is a long shot but all the information we have and a dead end.
My ancestors were John McDonald and his wife Mary (Ford) who arrived as assisted passengers to Western Australia in 1853 on board the ship Clara.
They came here with children Catharine, Patrick, John and James.
It is beleived they were from Carlow. They were definetly Irish.
John is listed as an agricultural labourer.
All sources say that they were "staunch Catholics".
Mary was probably born around 1808. Not sure about John.
Sorry thats all I have to go on but you never know.
Thank you very much.

Hi, I did find this;

Marriage:

groom:John McDonald
bride:Mary Forde
date of marriage:2 February 1837
place of marriage: Tinryland,co Carlow
witnesses:Stephen Nolan and Margaret Brinan  Milford

If you go to your nearest LDS(Latter Day Saints)library they can get in the microfilms of the Tinryland parish registers. The baptisms go from 28 March 1813-24 May 1833 and 2 June 1833-20 December 1857 which should cover all their children.Maybe even Mary as she possibly came from there as normally a couple married in the bride's parish.Tinryland also has marriages covering 20 June 1813-28 February 1843 in which you can see John and Mary's marriages.Sadly there are no parents names with the early records.Hope this helps,Kim
