George BAINBRIDGE (1844 - 1916)
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 11:49 GMT (UK) »
George Bainbridge was the son of the founder of Bainbridges drapers store on Lincoln High Street.  George had 4 children: Edith Mary (b 1872), Betsey Sharpley (b 1874), George Edward P (b 1875) and Nellie (b 1879).  In the 1881 census George is shown as married but his wife isn't with him.  He married Ellen Jennifer GINNER in 1884, so his first wife must have died between 1881 and 1884.

I can't find any records of his first marriage, or a Bainbridge female death of a similar age to him dying in the Lincoln area, is anyone researching Bainbridges in Lincoln?

Hi

As you know the names of the children, you may have to purchase one of their birth certificates which will give you their mother's name.

Bainbridge    Edith Mary        Lincoln    7a   498
September 1872

The only possible marriage that I can see in the area is:

George Bainbridge
Sept 1871
Doncaster 9C 782

Bride either Emma Astwood or Annie Elizabeth Peniston

Annie Elizabeth BAINBRIDGE of South Park Terrace buried 27 March 1882 aged 34. :)

Looks like Annie ELizabeth PENISTON that groom found was the one.

Living in Doncaster in 1871, daughter of a Draper.  ::)

Good find Geoff - her father's occupation fits with her future husband as well. I wonder where she is in 1881 if she isn't with the family? Possibly she is in hospital somewhere?

Could this possibly be her death? Was she sent there as she was ill?

Yes Groom I think that must be her, I can't find her in the 1881 census so I can only think that she was probably in somewhere like Switzerland "taking the air" because she had breathing difficulties.
