HELP!!
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 15:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I have reached a point, and been searching since November 2012, but still in the same situation.
I discovered in January, that I've been barking up the wrong tree; I think I've discovered that my great great great grandfather remarried between 1881 and 1901. His wife in the 1881 census was Rachel, and in 1901 his wife was Mary. Problem is that I cannot find any information about Mary at all. I've been down to the grave in Ferryside and even taken a photo of the grave, but cannot find even the death certificate whilst I have her death day, month and year. So if anyone could help it would be fantastic. Also, like suggested in a previous thread (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,623075.0.html) I contacted Carmarthenshire registry office for information about John Thomas. As I don't have much information i.e father's name and mother name they couldn't help, and that's the information I would like from his birth certificate. All I can gather from the gravestone (family gravestone) that John Thomas was a grandchild of the above (Mary Thomas) But what I can't understand on the grave is that Mary Thomas died in 1916 83 years of age and her husband died in 1943 aged 89 as from the 1901 census at Roberts Rest Farm St Ishmael there is only 6 years between them. I have uploaded the grave picture. If anyone can please help! Thanks very much.

I suspect the age given for Mary on the gravestone is 63 and so this could be her death reg

Mary A Thomas march qtr 1916 Carmarthen vol 11a pg 1445

Have you looked for the family in the 1911 census?

I have found some in the 1911 census, I have found my grandmother which was also called Mary, but cannot find if John Thomas that died in 1931 would have been her cousin I think. So far I think only Mary had children from the 5/6 kids they had. Ordered a few death certificates, and none of the deaths have been witnessed by wives/husbands but by brother or uncle William (which is annoying!!!!) I did order John Thomas's death certificate in 1931 as he had died young it would have been one of his parents that witnessed the death but again it was his uncle William!

Hello,

not sure if this has been covered in your other threads:
Free BMD
June quarter 1892 Carmarthen - death Rachel Thomas 38 yrs

There is a Mary Jones at Roberts Rest Farm in 1891 as housekeeper to her cousin John Jones. Eleanor Enoch is also a cousin. Maria Thomas is living with Eleanor Enoch as niece in 1901.
There are several marriages which have David Thomas and Mary Jones as possible spouses between 1892 and 1901.

If the death for Rachel is the right one - 1892, then William 10yrs in 1901 would be Rachel's child.

Therefore Mary would not be the mother/grandmother to any of the Thomas family.

think the relationships on the stone are to David -wife of David, son of David and grandson of David. It could be a memorial rather than a grave marker as the 1915 death is after the 1916.

Think it's time to scratch the head again.

Does that mean that this is not your family?
