Death/Burial Sophia Davis
« on: Monday 11 February 13 08:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello
This is only my second post so hope I'm following all the rules!

I cannot find the death/burial of my paternal great great grandparents.
GGGrandmother: Sophia Davis
Born:c1803 in Pershore, Worcestershire

GG Grandfather: Thomas Davis
Born:c1801 in Pershore, Worcestershire

Last Link: 1861 Census - They are living "Red Hill, London Road, St Peter, Worcestershire"
Thomas is a cordwainer and Sophia is a schoolmistress.

Their son, Thomas and his wife Sophia (nee Craven) emigrated to Australia in 1859. Thomas Jnr's immigration papers indicate that his parents (Thomas and Sophia Snr) were living in Defford at the time he emigrated.

Hoping someone can help. Melbourne, Australia is such a long way from Worcester!!

Kind regards
Tramtricia

Hi Tricia

I will have a look for you but it would help a lot if you had put the approximate ages on your look up request as there were a lot of Davis/Davies around the Pershore area

All the very best

Hi Phil
Thank you so much for your kind offer. However I only know their approximate birth years and the fact that they were alive in the 1861 Census.
Thomas Davis was about 60 in the 1861 Census
Sophia Davis was about 58 in the 1861 Census.

I have not been able to find either of them in the 1871 Census so they could have died between 1861 and 1871 so Thomas was between 60 and 70 years and Sophia was between 58 and 68 years.

The last location for them was Red Hill, London Road, St Peters Worc

Cheers and thank you
Trish

Possible candidates that fit between those dates in Worcs is

Sophia Davis Dec 1865 Shipston.

Thomas Davis Dec 1862 Pershore.

This might help anyone looking them up proper  :)

Hi Tricia

So far today Ive only had time to look at one of the MI books & was unable to find thomas or Sophia but did come accross Edith Ethel d/o James/Sophia Davis who died 13 MAR 1883 aged 1 yr 9 months also her parents deaths
James died 22 NOV 1916 aged 96yr 9months
Sophia died 23 NOV 1924 in her 90th yr

I sent you these as even though Davis is not the most uncommon name as you are researching Pershore these may belong to the same line.

I will try to see what I can do later with the parish registers but I have a lot on today & may not get the time to spare as my time is rather limited & I have to attednd a meeting in a few hours that will tame a lot of time

All the very best

Phil

ps do you know what Sophia's maiden name was?
Worcestershire - Heeks, Maiden, Pinchin, Hartland, Tredwell, Holliday, Morton, Collins, Aldington, Saunders
Oxfordshire - Gomm, Hamblet, Austin, Winter,
Herefordshire - Lowe
Radnor - Lowe, Powell
Gloucestershire - Holliday, Pinchin

Thanks so much Phil - shall keep note of this info and see if it fits somewhere in my tree.

I think Sophia's maiden name was Brookes/Brooks - have not absolutely confirmed this. There is a marriage of Sophia Brooks and Thomas Davis at St Swithun's, Worcester on 30 Aug 1825 (Source LDS site) and a Sophia Brookes was christened in St Andrew, Pershore on 1 July 1803 (again LDS site).

Again thank you for your time and efforts.

Trish

Hi Trish

Im having a lot of dificulty trying to guess when or even where these may have been burried but am almost certain that it wasnt at Pershore itself so may be anywhere in the Pershore district (& its a big one)so regretfully I may have to stop looking for them, Im very sorry about this as I hate letting anyone down regarding look ups especially when I have raised their hopes.

All the very best

Phil

ps if I have some time to spare before I have to return to Somerset I will try again
