There is an 1804 will of a Lewis Lewis,Tanhouse,Builth at www.llgc.org.uk,in which he names his wife Ann and son Lewis Lewis amongst others. Is this the generation you are looking for?

Dear Rob,

You may find the following of interest:

If you google -  Radnorshire Transactions or try copying and pasting the following link into google

welshjournals.llgc.org.uk/browse/listissues/llgc-id:1191402

Click on Vol 61  and then click on Lawrence Familes of Builth and Llanelwedd Area in the 18th & 19th Century and this will take you to Page 37  but it's pages 46 to 49 that mentions Lewis Lewis, Tanner of Builth and some of the family.

Volume 59 - page 90 onwards is Part 1;  and Volume 62,  Page 42 onwards is Part 3 of the Lawrence families etc. (but skimming through these two very quickly didn't seem to mention Lewis' of Builth).

Hope this is of some help.

Regards, Alltcafan  :)

Hi Rob

I was in Cwmyoy church the other day and noted that Rev. Lewis Lewis who died Jan 13th 1893 aged 83 years was the vicar there and Llanthony Abbey for 40 years, (His son Laskett who died in 1915 was also a vicar at Cwmyoy) Rev Lewis Lewis's father was Capt. Lewis Lewis from Tynllwyn Hall, Llanfaredd, Radnorshire, near Builth. Do you think there is a connection with the family you are researching in Builth? Perhaps Lewis Lewis and Ann baptised July 12th 1784.

Anne a  sister of Rev Lewis Lewis was a second wife to John Whittall, JP and plantation owner in St Vincent, West Indies who also farmed at Pipton 1851 and was late of Pontywal on his 1858 probate.

On his memorial in St George's Cathedral, St Vincent it also mentions his sister in law Rosa Jane Lewis who died there in the same year, the inscription includes Twnllwyn, Radnorshire.

Thanks

John
