Thanks yet again Dee
For my mother's lost brother in Australia !! had searched some time back but with a surname like Wood, I just hadn't got anywhere, pity, since Bill and Raymond were both in the same type of work, they would have had lots to talk about.
With Bill's age I suppose he was in WWII, did he mention by chance ? I missed my chance of coming to Australia as an Evacue during the war, as we lived in the North of London we were some of the last to go, as the countryside was fast filling up, they had started to send the kids out, according to my mother,I was due to go to Australia, but the ship before ours was sunk and all was stopped - ended up in Wiltshire - can't be bad there are some nice people who live there.

Not that I'm aware of, John, but when I'm speaking to my mother, I'll put that question to her too.

Good day.

I noticed you asking for information regarding David Thomas Tillman.

My name is Patrick William Tillman. I was born in 1977 in Johannesburg South Africa.  My father is David William Tillman born 1920 London. His father was David Thomas Tillman born 1880 London and his father was Robert Tillman.

Please let me know your interest in our family and if you have info to share.

Thanks
Patrick.

Hello Patrick
Nice to hear from another of the Tillmans at last, from what I found, had just missed one who three weeks earlier had died in Australia, have contact with one of Lavinia's grandchildren and had one of the Wilton (Selina Matilda's husband) Thomas David's sister - contact.

I am straight down the line from Frederick, (third son of George b. 1805 in LYMSTONE Devon) - just up the river Exe from Exmouth.

'Roots' rules are not to put e- mails on post, but after you have put three post on yourself, you can send me a PM and exchange mails, if you like.

Have an interesting newspaper cutting on Robert, that I will be able to send you.

Never visited Jo bourg, but was Cadet Officer  with the 'Lavender Hull mob' - Union-Castle Mail Steamship Co Ltd - so knew the coast quite well in the early 1950's.

Hi John.

It's great to make your acquaintance and to meet a cousin.

John I take it you have read the books by Elizabeth Tillman; Getting to the Roots of the Family Tree: The Story of a Saxon Family.

http://www.heritagebooks.com/product/101-T0627.html

She spent a lot of time researching.

P.

Hello Patrick
No, have not read the book - who is Elizabeth Tillman ? One of our family, or of American Tillmans, for which I can find no conection.

When did your dad go out to S.A. - might even have taken him out to the Cape, without knowing it !
just my luck! are your Aunt's family still around by chance.

Hay John,

Im not 100% sure about Elizabeth, she is UK based (or was).

The books are very detailed although a little jumbled as she seemed to struggle to lay all the info out.  There are 3 volumes to the whole story but only the first volume relates to us - the rest is about the American Tillmans which is interesting never the less.

I would strongly suggest buying yourself a copy from Heritage Books. (I think if you request as a family member you don't have to pay)

My father David came to SA in 1946, in December, if my memory serves me correctly. He brought Thomas his father to Cape Town subsequently to that and Thomas passed away in Cape Town to my knowledge. David passed away in 2002.

David married my mother Eileen in 1970. My sister Penny was born 1971 and myself 1977.

My father David's sister married into the Moseley(?spelling) family and she had two children. She has also passed away. I believe they are still in the UK.

My mother Eileen Tillman is still alive and strong.

I have compiled the following from Elizabeth's books and your notes:
Patrick William Tillman - Born 1977 - Johannesburg
David William Tillman - Born 1920 - London (within the sound of the Bow Bells)
Thomas David Tillman - Born 1880 - London (within the sound of the Bow Bells)
Robert Tillman - Born 1848 - London (within the sound of the Bow Bells)
George Tillman - Born 1805 - London
Peter Tillman - Born 1780 - Lympstone
George Tillman - Born 1755(?) - Lympstone

 :)

Hello again P

First glad to hear that mother is well and strong, please pass on my best wishes.

Yes, Elizabeth to cover so much ground, not only in time but also area, must have worked really hard, and as this is not what you could call an exact science, and cannot always be cross referenced, not easy.
On same forum, but on a newer post is - 'Splintered Families - end of the line or is it' which though I haven't yet reached Lavinia, John, or your Robert, is slowly getting that way !

What held me up was that when Peter ( that you mentioned) died he left his wife Tammy and three children,
Thomasine 1803 -   (our) George 1805     and     John 1811

It is in 1821, when Tammy married her daughter orf! and then remarried herself and went north - that things become more complicated  - more Later.

Yes had your Grandfather still at the same house in 1951, as he was when Gran Theresa died, wonder what he thought of Capetown. Don't know what your dad was working at before, or when he was in S.A.

Anything more that you can let me know about your present family, would be glad to hear BUT please use a PM.

Best

John
