Murlough Lower--Dundrum BMD Records
« on: Monday 18 February 13 08:08 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if there are any BMD records available on-line, for the Dundrum area of Co. Down ? I am still looking for the death of Samuel Clarke, between 1900 and 1912, there is speculation in the family that he returned to the Dundrum area, after his release from jail in 1900.......Del.

The civil registration index is online (free) and goes up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties. www.familsearch.org

When was he born and what makes you think he died before 1912?

Born in 1865 Aghadowey, his wife re-married in 1912 in Scotland.....if she was telling the truth, she was given as widow......Del.

O.K.....so cannot find a death for this chap at all, IF he returned to the Murlough Lower area, and IF he died there, where would he have been buried ? even if he was found dead in a ditch one day, he had to have been buried somewhere.......any ideas anyone ?........Del.

After much searching, and detective work, mainly by others, we now believe that Samuel Clarke died in 1907......''somewhere'' in Ireland.....most likely Co. Down......what would be the best way to establish if this is correct, or not ?........Del.

Whatever year he died there should be a death registration. I checked GRONI (1905-1909) and the closest to Dundrum geographically is a Samuel Clarke died 1906 (Downpatrick) but he's 74 years old.

Closest ones by age are both in Belfast:
Samuel Clarke, 23 March 1907 (age 47)
Samuel Clarke**, 15 March 1909 (age 45)

Belfast City Cemetery (G 171): Mr Samuel James Clarke**, age 45, 68 Trillick St., died 15 Mar.1909, buried 17 Mar.1909 (several others in same plot)

Aghadowey, Thank you, I got the information from a family member, and believe it to be reasonably correct.....this chap's grandmother told him that her father had told her that HIS father, Samuel, had died 13 years before she was born, in Ireland, Agnes Annie Clarke was born in 1920, in Scotland, making Samuel's death about 1907.........Del
