Could you give me any tips, please, on where I could start looking for Joseph Emilie Marcel's relations.  It would be absolutely wonderful if we were able to track down any living relatives, but I don't know where to start on that one.

Many thanks ???

You're getting into an area that is difficult to research in Canada (privacy laws).  I would contact the cemetery and see if the Joseph Emile in the same section and plot number is actually Alfred's son.  If it is you do have the name of his wife.  Perhaps the cemetery could give you further information as to who maintains the plot etc.

You could further check the Montreal directories to see if you can pinpoint Alfred's son in Montreal.  From the 1963 voters lists for Canada there is a possibility and I will pm the information.

On ancestry there is a family tree that has a photo of Alfred and his 2nd wife Blance.  The tree owner is a descendant of one of Blanche's older siblings and they only show 1 male child for Alfred.  Mundia is the free companion site to ancestry and I would check there to see if you could contact the owner - they might know more information than posted regarding Alfred's son.

Shows the same information for Alfred as ancestry.  At least you get to see his photo.

From 1940-1957 Alfred and Blanche resided at 6876 Rue St Dominique (Voters Lists).  He was shown as a tailleur (tailor) in 1940.  From your address in the first post I assumed that the Furrier was a reference to his type of employment which seems to fit with his 1940 occupation.

Ah, I've got a cousin somewhere in Canada.  Don't know if she's very good at researching online, she's not very up on things like that, but I'll give her a try!

this map plots Rue Drolet and Rue St-Dominique - they're quite close to each other.
Try searching the directories for Alfred on Rue Drolet
If I didn't give you the other website for Montreal directories if you put in
Lovell's Montreal Directories you should find it.

Thanks Cosmac, will have a look at that as soon as I can.

The person that gave us the address apparently was given it many many years ago and his handwriting has never been good in any event!   So will go on what you've kindly told me.
