Robert N. Ennis, Marquette County, Wisconsin
« on: Saturday 23 February 13 16:05 GMT (UK) »
Robert N. Ennis is buried in the United Presbyterian Cemetery, Buffalo, Marquette County, Wisconsin.  I would like to know who he is.  Given that every other Ennis in that cemetery is a relative, I assume that Robert is, too.  He was born on 12 September 1940 [just missed the census] and died on 15 February 1981 [last residence, LaCrosse, Wisconsin].  He married an Unkown Carpenter in Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin on 13 March 1973.  I suspect that his parents might be Samuel Leroy and Florence Ennis of Montello, Marquette County, Wisconsin.

I note that the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern and the Sheboygan Press make several references to an individual named 'Robert N. Ennis' but I do not have access to those newspapers.  If someone could check these out, it might shed some light on his identity.

Oshkosh Daily Northwestern (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) 10 July 1961

Bad Checks List Grows -  Ennis Jailed.

Berlin :- A fourth bad check for $40 turned up at the bank in Berlin today. It had been cashed at O'Connells clothing store for Robert N Ennis who had been in custody at Waushara Police since Saturday evening. Today Berlin Police planned to file a detainer on Ennis who also wrote bad checks to J C Penny Store, Hamilton Shoe Store, and Clark Service Station in Berlin Thursday.  He gave a Marshfield address, said he had been living in Chicago and reported his parents lived in Montello.
Checks issued by Ennis in Waushara County were cashed at Schultz Service Station Adolphs Auto Service, both in Wautoma and in a Montello supermarket. All were drawn on a Marshfield State Bank except the last one on a Princeton bank.

Oshkosh Daily Northwestern (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) - December 11 th 1967

Say Man Admitted Burglary.

Oshkosh police placed in custody Sunday evening a man who admitted he was wanted by authorities in Portage in connection with a burglary of a Spudnut shop in which approx. $300 was stolen. Police identified the man as Robert Ennis whose last known address was Portage. Police said they received a call from a Main Street Bar about 10.50 Sunday and were informed that a patron had admitted a burglary in Portage and wanted to turn himself over to the authorities for his part in the crime. Authorities in Portage told Oshkosh Police that Ennis was wanted for Parole violation as well as being a suspect in the burglary of the Spudnut shop. They added that they would send officers to Oshkosh sometime today to transport Ennis back to Columbia County to face charges.

"Montello youth."  He's mine, I'm afraid.  "Parents lived in Montello."  Hmm, Samuel Leroy Ennis died long before 1961 but maybe his mother had remarried.

Thanks, Sandra.

Thanks again.

No I haven't seen the photo - I no longer subscribe to Ancestry, though I've been thinking of going back to it.

After I said that Robert's mother might have remarried, I realized that she probably hadn't because she is buried with Sam and many other family members at the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Buffalo.

Got the pictures via Mundia.  Too bad no one is identified by name.  The errors in the tree are enough to take one's breath away, truly flabbergasting.  She has given my g-grandfather seven extra siblings, some of them born in England!  I wonder if it is even worth contacting the owner.
