Hi Suffolk*Sue,
Many thanks for that. All the info i have is pointing to Elizabeth having been born in 1796 & her 1853 marriage to John Staff has her father as John Simpson,a labourer. Although as you rightly say a Samuel Simpson was a witness at her first wedding to William Porter in 1823.
Elizabeth variously gives her place of birth as Essex in 1841 & 1861, but U K (unknown) in 1871. I'm beginning to wonder if she was born in Fobbing after all!
Also i've just noticed that the Elizabeth Bogue that Louisa Maud found as a possible in 1851 is living right next door to my Laver family in 1841 (transcribed as Louer) with a Helen Bogue a victualler, who is presumably her sister. So although these Elizabeth's are both of the same age, they are clearly different people.
So finding Elizabeth in 1851 is the last chance i have of (hopefully!) finding out where in Essex she was born!
Kind regards
David
