« on: Thursday 28 February 13 14:21 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the 1861 census record for Sarah Wiltshire b 1776 in Letcombe Bassett. I belive that she died in 1866 and for ost of her life lived in East Challow.

I would most grateful if someone could find her for me.

Many thanks

Hi Graham,

In the Letcombe Bassett transcripts there is this marriage;

7-10-1795 Edward Wiltshire (x), otp to  Sarah Pembroke (x), otp wits; John Allen, Wm. Painter
By Licence.

This info is taken from the CD issued by the Oxford FHS and with their permission.

Is this the one your looking for?  If so I can give more detail if needed.

Just found this thread. Sarah Pembroke and Edward Wiltshire were my 3 x great grandparents. I am descended from their daughter Lydia Wiltshire. I have Sarah's parents as Thomas Pembroke and Jane Partridge who married in Letcombe Bassett on 24 Oct 1770. I don't have anything definite further back, but I guess their birth years would be in the 1740s.

FindMyPast has transcript of licence 7 Oct 1796 (not 1795). Edward Wiltshire was underage, married by consent of parents. A John Allen was bondsman on licence - probably same person as one of witnesses.
First child was baptised 5 Feb 1797, only 4 months after marriage.

Thanks Alan,
I had the date of Thomas and Jane's marriage from FindMyPast, but no details of witnesses etc. I have baptisms of 12 children for Thomas and Jane from 1771 to 1796. There are burials for Thomas and Jane Pembrook/broke at Letcombe Bassett on 19 Jan 1826 and 23 Feb 1832 respectively. Ages at death would give birth years of 1745/6 for Thomas and 1750/51 for Jane. If they are the correct burials, this would make Jane 19 or 20 when she married and about 46 when she gave birth to her last child which is quite possible.
