Hi Hogan, two books that might be of interest to find out more about the family in Jamaica:

My Ancestor Settled in the British West Indies, by John Titford.  Published by the Society of Genealogists 2011.

Tracing your West Indian Ancestors, by Guy Grannum.

This web site has lots of info on Jamaica families: http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com/

There is a zip file to download to see if your surname(s) appear.  If so, a one month subscription is just $9 (USD).

You didn't mention whether you had found them in passenger lists.  If not there could be some additional information there.

Regards,

Paul

This is great information.  This person is my great-great grandfather and 8 came to a dead end on Ancestry.  I've tried looking at various other sites for Jamaica records and didn't find anything more on him.  I'll continue looking.

Lawrence Abraham was my great grandfather. According to the 1901 census he ran a boarding house in Upper Pitt Street. To my knowledge he had five daughters and one son. Emma,Alice, Harriet, Eliza and Sarah -Ann,plus  Dewany. My grandmother was Sarah Ann. On my grandmothers side  of the family most of the males have Lawrence as their second name.
