Can anyone find these adult siblings in 1871 please?
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 14:41 GMT (UK) »
I cannot find a group of unmarried adult siblings in the 1871 census - can anyone else spot them wrongly transcribed?

They are: Thomas Whitney bn 1817  shoemaker, Mary Whitney 1824 dressmaker, Hannah / Ann Whitney 1829 dressmaker, Rachel Whitney 1835 dressmaker, Emma Whitney 1838 Portrait painter

In 1861 they are with their elderly parents Thomas & Elizabeth Whitney at 2 Storn Place Hammersmith
The parents die sometime between 1961 and 1881
In 1881 the siblings are all at 8 Church Rd Hammersmith
By 1891, Thomas & Mary have presumably died but Hannah Rachel & Emma continue to live together  until the early 1900's

Thanks

I cannot find them on Ancestry so can only presume they have been badly mistranscribed

I don't have a subscription to FindMyPast - lets hope their transcriptions are better!

On a side-note, it looks like Emma was a good enough artist to have exhibited at least one painting:

scroll down to picture number 62 Titania by Emma Whitney

and it appears to have sold for quite a high price a few years back!

I've checked FindMyPast and cant see then on there either or on The Genealogist. Either the name has been badly written and transcribed or for some reason they have been left off the census.

Hello,
I think I have an ancestor that is part of this family.
Eliza Whitney. Married William John Weston Schoolmaster
Father on wedding cert 1847 listed as Thomas Whitney - Shoemaker
Witnesses Thomas and Mary Whitney
Mary Whitney (age 27 born 1824) also appears on the 1851 census with Eliza and her family. Head of household listed as Felix Levell (should be Lovell).
Would love to know if these are the same family members and if so let you know Eliza's fate.
