Jacob YOUNG remarried in 1883 :

NZ Marriage

Jacob YOUNG - Alice Agnes BELDY - 1883
-------------------------

"Timaru Herald" - 20 January 1883 - page 2

... on 17 January .. Jacob YOUNG to Alice Agnes BELDY, both of Timaru.

--------------------------

I can't see what became of this wife.   She doesn't appear on electoral rolls or the death index.

As Alice Agnes STONYER, she'd previously married in 1870 to another German national, Andreas (Andrew) BELDY.  He died in 1876 at Timaru (entered as Andrews BELDY on the cemetery database).    Could find no children born of the union.

Could she have reverted to her maiden name?

The only info I can see on the Kiwi Index is for a Alice Agnes Beldy is for Christchurch in the NZ Gazette 1896, Page 143, and the type was "Notices"

Hi Mike

... I was hopeful that the name BELDY may have somehow been mistaken for BEGBIE ... but alas, no.  And I've been unable to find any connection BEGBIE (BEGBY & var.) to the YOUNG (JUNG) name.

It seems that, although twice married, Oliver Jacob YOUNG (the son), had no children.

--------------------

Ethel May YOUNG married in 1900 to a James ALLAN.

"Timaru Herald" - 23 January 1900 - page 2

(Extract)
ALLAN - YOUNG ... on Thursday 18th instant at the Manse ... James ALLAN to Ethel May (Effie), the youngest d/o Mr. J. YOUNG.

The marriage was shortlived - as a Divorce file dated 1902, attests.  (She seems not to have teamed up with the co-respondent - he wed someone else in 1904).  I've yet to find what became of Ethel May (Effie).

Lily YOUNG died, a spinster, in 1944.

The following probate records - all processed through the Timaru High Court - are available for viewing at the FamilySearch* website.

NOTE:  *  There is currently a problem with viewing these at FamilySearch -- please see the separate topic on this board re: the FamilySearch site issues and updates on the situation.
