Would any one be able to look up for me the birth registration for Lilian P C Parker ,District Henley vol 3a page 542 in the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter?
The  two churches where she may have been christened were demolished in 1866 (Britwell Salome and Britwell Prior).A kind soul on Roots Chat has suggested that I need to look in Henley prefixed SO and the one I need is SOO3.
I really am scrambling in the dark here as I am new to this side of things.
I am trying to find out if her mother and father are on any documents. How would I go about buying a birth certificate?
Thank you in advance.I am researching on behalf of an elderly aunt who is 102! I would love to be able to solve her puzzle.

Hi miggs 191

You can apply to the General Register Office at Southport www.gro.gov.uk for a copy of the birth certificate which will cost £9.25. The year is 1866.

I'm sorry but the local register office will most probably be unwilling to look at their registers and tell you who her parents were. Members of the public are not allowed access to the birth registers held at register offices.

Have you found her with her parents on the census?

If she married, her father's name would be on the marriage certificate.

Lilian PARKER (mistranscribed as PACKER) appears on the 1871 census:

Name:
Lilian Packer

Age:
4

Estimated Birth Year:
abt 1867

Relation:
Granddaughter

Where born:
Watlington, Oxfordshire, England

Civil parish:
Britwell Priory

County/Island:
Oxfordshire

Registration district:
Henley

Sub-registration district:
Watlington

Household Members:

Name
Age

Samuel Percey (Retired Sea Captain, born Devises, Wilts.)
52

Louisa Percey (wife)
49

Ann Parker (daughter)
22

Emily Percey
14

Alice Percey
13

Lilian Packer (grand-daughter)
4

Mahlda Imson (servant)
35

From the above, it would appear that Lilian is Ann's daughter.  However, at the moment I can find no record of an Ann PERCEY marrying a PARKER!

If its any help, the following baptism took place at Watlington on 12 Dec 1866:

Lilian Clare Perry Parker daughter of William James & Mary Sarah Sissons, engineer, The Folly, privately.

This is from an Oxfordshire FHS CD.

Further to my previous posting, this is the family on the 1861 census (living in Hackney, Middx.):

John Perry - Head (Superintendent Engineer, Machinery)
40

Louisa Perry (wife)
36

Mary S Perry (daughter)
12

Emily Perry (daughter)
5

Alice P Perry (daughter)
3

Matilda Ineson (unmarried visitor)
25

Years/places of birth match with those given in the 1871 census (though I wonder why John changed his name?).

From the above, it would seem that the Lilian PARKER shown as grand-daughter on the 1871 census is, in fact, the daughter of Mary S. PERRY and her husband William James PARKER (as per the Watlington baptism record in the previous posting).

But ... then who is the Ann PARKER, daughter of Samuel and Louisa, who appears on the 1871 census???

There is a possible marriage in Dudley (Mar 1866) - William PARKER with a possible bride, Mary PERRY.

A quick recheck of the 1861 and 1871 census images throws up another conundrum.  On the 1871 census, Ann PARKER (nee PERCEY/PERRY?) is recorded as being born in c1849 in Devizes, Wiltshire.  On the 1861 census, Mary S. PERRY is also recorded as born the same year and place.  Could they be the same people?

Hoping that the 1851 census may throw some light on the above, I found the following:

John PERRY (married) lodging in St. Clement Danes, Middlesex, and working in the grocery trade.
Mary S. PERRY (aged 2), a neice living with William and Sarah GRACE in Devizes, Wiltshire.
Louisa PERRY - no record found.
Ann PERRY - no record found (which would make sense if Mary and Ann were the same person!)

THANK YOU  :) :) :)
Most of the info so kindly researched above we have. BUT the missing link is the Baptism and partner of Mary Sarah Sissons Perry.
My Aunt of 102 is over the moon. She has spent at least fifty years researching our complicated family and every thing is documented back to the 1600s. She could not find reference to her grandmother's daughter Lilian Clare Perry. We knew she existed because she is mentioned in Wills. My great grandmother went on to marry a Banks of Potterne Wilts and had six sons. The daughter was never mentioned....so sad.
Where can I get the Oxf CD? We know it is her because of the name Sissons. Various records to do with inheritance can be accessed at The National Archives and here she says she has no children. We suspect that her Father John Perry of Devizes could have been controlling her as it may have involved a large inheritance hence the name Clare for the child. It is not a christian name but a surname of the Coroner of Devizes around 1800.
Again many many thanks. We are ready to crack open the champagne!
