OK, is this likely to be the son's death? If so it gives an indication of birthdate which is something to go on.

Added: this birthdate is consistent with the Sep qtr 1944 Halifax birth mentioned by BumbleB of John A ARTUS (mmn Mintoft) alternatively John A MINTOFT (mmn Mintoft), both versions indexed with the identical page reference. The indexing under the two surnames suggests the parents were not married to one another at the time. 

If he was born John but later changed his name to Jacob, that might explain why his 1986 marriage is indexed under both names.
