Llanasa Parish Records
« on: Monday 18 March 13 14:11 GMT (UK) »
Do the Llanasa Parish records hold any information about  the clergy serving at the time they were written?  ( I ask because I know that the Denbigh Parish records do)

I am looking to find any information relating to my 7th Great Grandfather Rev John Williams who was Vicar of Llanasa from 1790 until his death in 1798.

Many Thanks
Claire

Hii

I've just turned up a random page from the parish register  which says:

'July 22 1791 The new Bell was put up the ?Roof? - John Williams vicar'

plus a list of church wardens.

The Clwyd FHS booklets normally give a list of the vicars for the parish.

Yes, my colleague Chris posted that some time back.  He got me started off on my little quest.
I didn't realise this would be so ridiculously addictive.

I am trying to establish the origin of my middle name 'Salusbury'.  I have gotten as far back as Johns son whom he named 'Salusbury Williams' but I have no idea why.  I am hoping that going back one or two generations more will shed some light on the mysterious link.

I have grabbed all the data possible from those helpful links in the previously mentioned thread.  I am still struggling to go back a generation further than John as I have no idea to his DoB.

Was just curious at to whether the Parish records had any snippets of info after seeing the Denbigh references.

Any other gems of advice for a total novice would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks,
Claire

There is a slab set in the floor of St.Marcella Denbigh which reads:

"Robert the son of the Rev John Williams and Mary his wife was buried 19th October 1789 aged 5 years.

Here lies the remains of the Rev John Williams late vicar of Llanasaph who was buried May 7th 1798  aged 45

Also the remains of Robert,Elizabeth and Mary children of the above who died infants and Thomas son of the above who died Jan'y 1800 aged 13 years"

From the records there are two Roberts, one born 1784 as per the initial memorial and another son born approx. 10 days after the first died, who also died short of his fifth birthday in 1794.

I have a moderate quality photo of the stone and a separate Salusbury dedication from the church that I could try to upload or send via e-mail if you send your e-mail address in a PM

Regards
Roger

Roger that is the most astonishing find.
I am so so grateful.
A photo would be excellent.  It will help me root it our when I manage to get up to Denbigh.

Thanks again :)

I was going to post this on the related thread, but thought it more appropriate here.
If you can find no link to the Salusbury family, you might want to consider that John Williams was sponsored in, or put forward for, the parish incumbency. I have an example in my own tree where an ecclesiastical ancestor named one of his children after his sponsor.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thanks for your input!
What kind of era did the occurance happen in your family tree?
And where do you start looking for information like that?

Many Thanks,
Claire
